Joe's Opinion

Worthless program because it does not have any terrain 'definition' for anything less than a mountain and valley side-by-side. Their sample showing the Grand Canyon area was impressive, but when I tried this on the Iowa cornfield and gully terrain, it was as if there WAS NO TERRAIN... like flying over a flat plate.

Then..... colors were a problem because EVERYTHING was a stupid tan (shadings of brown) color with only minor variations in the shading. Maybe this looks different to other people, but to me it was worthless.

A similar color complaint was made (about a different 'terrain' program - 'Google Maps Terrain') at this site. I am including this link as an example of what I am talking about with the 3DEM program.

Computer race-car games have extremely good terrain definition on every turn and on every straight-a-way, so the lack of terrain definition in this program (3DEM) is inexcusable. Game programmers should get together with USGS and show the "GubMent" folks how to really use the power of modern computers.
